Engagement Events

WVU United Way Campaign

WVU’s annual United Way campaign is the University’s commitment to our community. Over the past 30 years, WVU has participated in this campaign which encompasses numerous events and covers an eight-week period in the fall.

Make a Difference Day

This annual event is co-sponsored by the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties and the Center for Service and Learning. The event takes place in October and brings together students and community members to participate in fall service projects. The day has grown to over 300 volunteers, and is WVU’s largest service event.

Random Acts of Kindness Week

Each year, West Virginia University joins with the United Way to sponsor Random Acts of Kindness Week in February. During this special week, members of the WVU family are encouraged to practice kindness around campus. Special events take place throughout the week that highlight the generosity of our University and the students, faculty, and staff that make it so unique.

Week of Engagement

The Week of Engagement takes place every April and is designed to showcase service and engagement on campus. During the week, students and student organizations participate in large scale service projects to benefit the community. The CSL plans events and activities to engage all aspects of the University in service. A highlight of the week is always the annual Engagement Celebration, where the Excellence in Civic Engagement Awards are presented.

Dollars for Disaster

As needed basis
The Dollars for Disaster initiative was started by a group of WVU students in 2005 as a response to the Indonesian Tsunami. The initiative has since collected monetary and supply donations for Hurricane Katrina, Southern West Virginia floods, and most recently the Haitian earthquake. During each campaign, the CSL coordinates the campus-wide initiative and compiles all events and serves as a clearing house for relief efforts.

Partnership Events

The CSL is proud to partner with several campus and community organizations on special events. Below are a few of those collaborations:
